pet stores
i seriously don't understand why anyone would even CONSIDER buying a kitten or a puppy from a pet store. i am evidently that many millions of steps removed from this train of thought; i am completely incapable of comprehending. whenever i hear someone say they got their dog or cat from a pet store, i'm dumbfounded. tonight i actually gasped. i don't know if this is just a case of "living in my vegan bubble" syndrome, or what, but i just don't get it.

Whenever I hear someone say that they got their pet from a pet store, I have to bite back a snide comment about puppy mills. I feel like anyone who would purchase a dog or cat from a pet store could never be a good pet owner because I just picture them shopping for the poor creature as if it were a new sweater. I know that I am being overly harsh and that not all of these pet owners are idiots, but that is just the way I feel.

And for that matter, people shouldn't have their own kids...

seriously. i completely feel the same way. even from a non vegan point of view, the cost is out of control! if you want an AKC registered pug, you can either pay $2500 for one at a pet store, or $500-900 from a good, responsible breeder. i know adopting an animal is the #1 way to go, but coming from a dog show family, i understand the desire to have purebred dog. from either side of the fence, pet stores make me throw up in my mouth a little.

I am totally with you on this one. It just blows me away. I spend most of my time with three dogs and three cats who were all rescues and are all fantastic, loveable, wonderful companions. There's no reason to go to a pet store when the shelters are full.

and you know, the absolute weirdest thing about it all was that this time? we were talking about a kitten. just a regular ol' shorthair mix, orange and white kitten. from a pet store. seriously. argh.
